Filtration Process

In short, although both versions use 4 filtration stages, the filters and membrane are of good quality and will deliver cleaner and safer drinking water like any other high-end 5-stage RO system.

Filtration Capacity and Efficiency

The Home Master TM will give you a maximum of 50 gallons of pure water a day with a 70 psi feed pressure and a temperature of 77°F.

It’s an average capacity of most standard RO systems and while it may fluctuate with the change in pressure and temperature, it’s still decent enough to address the water needs of small to medium families.

The TM-ERP-L model, on the other hand, can deliver up to 75 gallons a day, so it’s a better option if you need a little more capacity.

Another commendable thing about this TM-ERP-L model compared to the Home Master TM version is that it’s very efficient. It comes with a permeate pump which not only raises the production speed of the system but significantly reduces water waste by about 80%.

While the TM wastes 4 gallons for every gallon of clean water it produces, the Home Master TM-ERP-L wastes only a gallon of water for each gallon of pure water produced.

It’s simply a highly efficient RO system that can save you a lot of money in the long run. The nice thing though is that both versions use larger tubing and fittings than traditional RO systems which doubles their flow rate.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing the Home Master TM or the TM-ERP-L model is easy and straightforward. With just some basic DIY skills, you can set it up within an hour and the installation kit has everything you need to install it.

The two units are designed to fit nicely under any kitchen countertop with a normal-sized cabinet. However, the TM-ERP-L requires a power source which may somewhat limit your installation location unless you choose to install one in the cabinet or basement.

The HydroGardener TMA-HG-PRO is much similar to its counterpart, the TMA-HG with the only things setting them apart is the addition of an extra iron pre-filter and a permeate pump. If you are a hydroponic grower or gardener, this is yet another superb option you can consider if the TMA-HG model didn’t win you over.

Filtration Process

This TMA-HG-PRO model uses 8 stages of filtration that effectively transform contaminated water into safe, purified water ideal for both plants and human consumption.  

The 1st stage pre-filter of the unit is a 5-micron sediment filter that clears out the sediments, sand, silt, dust, rust and other particles that may clog the filters in the other subsequent stages.

The water then passes through the 2nd stage filter which is an iron pre-filter consisting of catalytic carbon media and KDF85 media. The powerful KDF85 redox media helps remove iron, hydrogen sulfide, and manganese.

If you are using well water in your garden, then this filter will come in handy as well water tends to have high amounts of iron and manganese which often destroy the reverse osmosis membrane.

The catalytic carbon media in the iron filter acts as the 3rd stage and helps absorb all harmful chemicals from the feed water. It majorly removes chlorine, chloramines, VOCs and other common chemicals found in city water supplies and also in wells.

At the 4th stage is the high capacity Dow Filmtec RO membrane which wipes out every contaminant larger than 0.0001 microns. It will remove 98% of TDS, heavy metals, chemicals like pharmaceuticals and more than 1000 other contaminants.

The filtered water is then channeled through an artesian filter featuring crushed marbles and carbon media which form the 5th and 6th stages.

This filter refines the water further while adding small amounts of calcium and magnesium minerals to make the water alkaline prior to reaching the storage tank.

Immediately the RO water leaves the holding tank, it goes again through the artesian filter for second remineralization and removal of any residual odor and taste collected from the tank.

Permeate Pump

Filtration Process

The TMA-HG is equipped with 7 stages of filtration which include the Home Master’s Full Contact remineralization technology.

The 1st stage features a 5-micron sediment filter that captures all the large particles and sediments floating on the water.

It’s followed by a carbon filter in the 2nd stage which is made up of a powerful catalytic carbon filtration media.

It effectively removes stubborn and persistent chemical contaminants in the water like chloramine and chlorine. It also helps clear out VOCs, cloudiness and unpleasant taste and odor.

The 3rd stage features the high capacity RO membrane and it filters the water down to 0.0001 microns thereby stripping the water clean by removing close to 98% of the remaining contaminants which include heavy metals, microorganisms, TDS, chlorine and other chemical contaminants.

Once the water leaves the membrane, it’s channelled through the artesian filter which forms the first point of the Full Contact remineralization system and 4th and 5th stages of the unit.

The TMAFC-ERP is another top-quality model in Home Master’s full contact series. It’s an improved version of the TMAFC model above offering some new wonderful upgrades and features. The biggest improvement is the addition of a permeate pump which significantly boosts the unit’s efficiency and puts it ahead of other similar mid-range systems.

Filtration Process

The TMAFC-ERP has got the same 7 stages of filtration as the Home Master TMAFC which includes two high-quality pre-filters, a reverse osmosis membrane, and an additional two remineralization stages.

The 1st stage is fitted with a sediment filter that removes dust, sand, silt, scales, rust and any other particle that’s larger than 5 microns.

The sediment filter is followed by a powerful granular activated catalytic carbon filter in the 2nd stage which takes care of all kinds of chemical contaminants in the water. It clears out chlorine, VOCs, pharmaceuticals as well as chloramines.

In the 3rd stage, we have Home Master’s high-performance Dow Filmtec RO membrane which removes 99% of the remaining contaminants from chemicals to heavy metals to dissolved solids to pharmaceuticals, and many other contaminants like microorganisms.

After the water has been filtered through the RO membrane, it goes through a 4th stage that’s made up of two phases featuring a carbon filter and a remineralization filter.

The carbon filter clears out any residual chlorine and other chemicals while the remineralization filter adds back calcium and magnesium ions into the water to balance its pH level.

This is the first point of the Home Master’s full contact remineralization system and happens before the water is delivered to the RO storage tank.

Permeate Pump

Now the major step up to this TMAFC-ERP model from its predecessor, the TMAFC model is the fact that it comes standard with a non-electric permeate pump.

This is a key component that significantly boosts the efficiency of the entire system. It increases the water production rate by almost 50% while at the same time reducing the amount of wastewater generated by up to 80%.

Home Master TMULTRA Reverse Osmosis System Review


The Home Master Ultra series consists of refined and more advanced models compared to those in the standard and full contact series. The company has three models under its Ultra series which include the TMULTRA, TMULTRA-ERP, and TMULTRA-ERP-L.

All three models come equipped with iron pre-filter and UV light post-filter which are not available on both Home Master’s basic and full contact systems. However, these models differ slightly in terms of additional features.

Filtration Process

The Home Master TMULTRA is integrated with 6 stages of filtration similar to both the TMULTRA-ERP and TMULTRA-ERP-L models with the two outstanding filters being the iron pre-filter and UV light post-filter.

The system is designed to perform filtration, purification, and sterilization through the six stages generating exceptional clean and fresh drinking water

The 1st stage is fitted with a sediment filter which removes all the sediments and particles down to 5 microns.

The 2nd stage of the system is the powerful iron pre-filter which is one of the key features in all of Home Master’s ULTRA RO models. The filter is a combination of KDF85 media and catalytic carbon media.

The KDF85 media clears out manganese, hydrogen sulfide and iron from the water which would otherwise destroy the membrane.

If you have a private well at home and it contains iron, this is in an ideal system for it. The type of iron often found in well water can completely destroy the RO membrane without the iron pre-filter protecting it.

Traditional reverse osmosis systems are usually destroyed easily when filtering well water but the advanced redox KDF85 media in the iron pre-filter will effectively remove iron from the water and protect the membrane.

Additionally, the catalytic carbon media in the filter helps remove chlorine, chloramines and other chemicals like herbicides and pesticides from the water which are often responsible for the unpleasant cloudiness, taste and odor.

The Dow Filmtec RO membrane makes up the 4th stage of the unit and it strips the water of all contaminants that are larger than 0.0001 micron which basically eliminates 98% of dissolved solids like fluoride, nitrates; heavy metals like lead and arsenic; bacteria, viruses and residual chemical contaminants such as chlorine and chloramines.

The 5th stage consists of a post-carbon filter that removes any odor or taste from the RO storage tank as the water moves to the final stage which is the UV light filtration.

Stage 6: UV Light Filter

The inclusion of a UV light filter is one of the reasons that makes the Home Master TMULTRA as well as the TMULTRA-ERP and TMULTRA-ERP-L models ideal for filtering well water and even regular municipal water.

The UV light filter is very effective at destroying microorganisms without changing the water’s chemistry or adding harmful chemicals.

After the water leaves the post-carbon filter, it’s channeled through the UV light sterilization chamber where it’s bombarded with an intense UV light wave (254 um).

The light penetrates the cells of the living microorganisms in the water, distorting and destroying their DNA and RNA thereby leaving them effectively neutralized.

Filtration Capacity and Efficiency

With regards to filtration capacity, the TMULTRA can produce a maximum of 50 gallons of clean water daily which is an average rate that’s good for small households.

The system has a water efficiency ratio of 4:1, it wastes 4 gallons of water for every gallon of pure water generated. Therefore, it’s certainly not efficient.

If you want better system efficiency, a good option would be the TMULTRA-ERP model which includes a permeate pump that helps cut down water wastage by 80% to a ratio of 1:1 and as well boosts the production rate by up to 50%.

Home Master TMHP HydroPerfection Reverse Osmosis System


The Home Master TMHP Hydroperfection is a system that offers nothing but efficiency and superior performance. It features everything you would find in the Home Master Ultra series plus a permeate pump and an Artesian Full Contact remineralization technology.

Filtration Process

The TMHP HydroPerfection system comprises of 9 stages of filtration with every possible filter you would want in a reverse osmosis system. It’s amongst the most effective systems we’ve reviewed that can deal with even the lowest quality water.

The process starts with a prefiltration stage featuring a sediment filter that traps all the particles and sediments like sand, silt and rusts down to 5 microns, so nothing gets to clog the system’s RO membrane.

In the 2nd stage, the TMHP HydroPerfection uses an iron/catalytic carbon filter combo which makes it very suitable for well water treatment.

These two pre-filters will clear out dissolved iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, herbicides and pesticides which are a common issue when it comes to well water. For city water, the pre-filters will efficiently get rid of excess chlorine, chloramines and other chemicals like VOCs which cause unpleasant odor and taste.

Once the water has gone through the three pre-filtration processes, it’s passed through the 0.0001-micron Dow Filmtec RO membrane in the 4th stage for purification. Here, up to 98% of all the contaminants in the water from heavy metals to dissolved solids, chemicals and pharmaceuticals are removed.

The 5th stage features the first point of Home Master’s Full Contact remineralization technology. This stage consists of an artesian filter that’s made up of crushed marbles and coconut shell carbon media.

The crushed marbles replenish natural calcium and magnesium mineral into the water thereby balancing its pH while the carbon media helps absorb any chlorine and chemicals that escaped through the membrane.

This two-phase stage happens before the RO water enters the storage tank and it makes the filtered water slightly alkaline, enough to prevent the storage tank from degradation.

As the water moves from the tank and makes its way to the faucet, it again goes through the artesian filter in the second part of the Full Contact remineralization system.

During this phase, the carbon media in the filter helps remove any residual tastes or odor arising from the RO tank while the crushed marbles add again some calcium and magnesium minerals into the water to make it more alkaline.

It raises the pH to about 7.0 to 8.0 and gives the water a nice fresh taste.  These two media form the 7th and 8th stages of the unit.

The final 9th stage before the water is delivered to the faucet consists of a UV sterilization process which as we mentioned earlier it’s a key feature to consider especially if you have well water.

When the water enters the UV light sterilization chamber, a strong light wave (254 um) is bombarded on it where it penetrates through the cell walls of any microorganism in the water, destroying them completely.

It will kill 99.99% of all the harmful living microorganisms that are likely to be present in well water as well as other natural sources.

Combined with the other stages of filtration, purification, and remineralization, this system will give you very clean water that’s more alkaline and tastes great.

Permeate Pump

The TMHP is designed for easy installation and anyone with rudimentary DIY skills will have no problem setting it up within an hour. All the details and steps are clearly outlined in the installation manual and there are videos online that can take you through the process.

You will only need to change the filters once a year, all of them. The membrane can go for 3 to 5 years before you can replace it.

However, you want to keep in mind that the UV light filter requires a power source to run, so you might need to install a power supply near your sink if you don’t have one ready. It works with the standard 110V power outlet.

The calcium carbonate effectively neutralizes the acidity of the filtered water and increases the pH level by about 1 to 1.5 resulting in a more balanced alkaline water.

The pH level of the final water will, however, vary based on the initial pH levels of the feed water and its composition. Nonetheless, with the alkaline filter in place, you are guaranteed to get purified alkaline water that tastes much better than plain RO water.

Filtration Capacity and Efficiency

Besides the addition of the alkaline filter, the RO membrane of the ROES-PH75 is an upgrade from that of the ROES-50 as it offers a higher water output.

APEC Water ROES-PHUV75 Reverse Osmosis System


The ROES-PHUV75 is one of APEC’s high calibre models within its Essence series providing a comprehensive filtration process that guarantees the purest water possible.

The unit is amongst the three versions of the APEC Essence ROES-UV75 model which only differs a little bit in terms of features. The first version is the ROES-UV75 itself with a 6-stage filtration process featuring a UV light filter.

The second version is the ROES-PHUV75-SS with a 7-stage filtration process featuring a PH filter and stainless steel UV light filter.

The third version is a variant of the ROES-PHUV75 which equally has a 7-stage filtration process that features a PH filter and a white UV light filter which is slightly different from the stainless steel UV light filter in the ROES-PHUV75-SS version.

In this review, we look at the second version which is the ROES-PHUV75 model with a stainless steel UV light filter.

Filtration Process

As I mentioned earlier, the APEC Essence ROES-PHUV75 is a comprehensive RO system equipped with 7 filtration stages that deliver super contaminant rejection rates and reliable performance.

The 1st stage of the unit consists of a polypropylene sediment filter which eliminates sand, silt, dust, rust and other particles down to 5 microns.

The 2nd and 3rd stages are the same quality coconut shell carbon block filters which effectively absorb and get rid of almost all the chlorine, chloramines, VOCs and chemicals that lead to unpleasant tastes, odors, colors and cloudiness in the water.

A high rejection TFC RO membrane sits in the 4th stage and it removes all the remaining contaminants down to 0.0001 microns. It gets rid of 99.99% of the total dissolved solids (TDS) in the water and 1000+ contaminants including fluoride, radium, chromium and heavy metals. The filtered water from the TFC membrane is then delivered to the RO storage tank.

5th Stage – UV Light Sterilizer Filter

From the storage tank, the RO water is passed through a 5th stage which consists of a watertight chamber featuring a UV light sterilizer filter.

This stage is what makes ROES-PHUV75 exceptionally effective at ensuring you get purified water that’s completely free of contaminants. The UV light sterilizer contains a powerful UV lamp that emits strong UV light with a wavelength of 253.7 nanometers. 

As the water flows past the lamp, all the harmful microorganisms are exposed to the lethal germicidal UV energy of the emitted UV light.

The germicidal energy effectively attacks and destroys the genetic core (DNA) of the microorganisms stopping their ability to reproduce, and ultimately causing them to die completely.

The best part is that unlike ordinary UV sterilizer filters, this one features a stainless steel interior. It reflects the UV light evenly throughout the chamber hence facilitating the highest UV coverage possible.

Therefore, no microorganism gets to escape the lethal germicidal energy from the UV light. The filter will kill up to 99.99% of all the harmful microorganisms in the RO water from bacteria to viruses to cysts and other microbial pathogens.

In addition, the filter uses an all-natural process. It doesn’t change the taste or composition of the water in any way.

6th Stage Post-Carbon Filter  

From the UV light filter, the water passes through the 6th stage where it’s further refined by an advanced coconut shell carbon filter that clears any possible residual chlorine and taste from the tank.

7th Stage Alkaline Filter

The final stage in the ROES-PHUV75 RO system is APEC’s calcium mineral cartridge which is an alkaline re-mineralizing filter and it adds calcium carbonate into the RO water thereby raising its pH level. It increases the pH value by 1 to 1.5.

The production rate of the ROES-PHUV75 is 75 gallons per day which is the same as the APEC ROES-PH75 and makes it an ideal choice for small to large families.

A 4-gallon storage tank is included with the unit and it can hold up to 3.2 gallons of water which is also a good capacity that should suit the needs of most households.

The unit releases 3 gallons of wastewater for every gallon of pure water it delivers, so it falls a little short with regards to filtration efficiency. But again this tells you how thorough the filtration process is despite the amount of water wasted being relatively high.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing the ROES-PHUV75 may not pose a lot of difficulties with some basic DIY skills. It comes quick connection fittings and all the tubing are colored to enable fast and easy installation and maintenance.

Filtration Process

The RO-Hi is equipped with premium-quality filters that deliver high performance for an extra-long time compared to those in other standard systems. The unit uses a 5-stage filtration process to get rid of all kinds of impurities and contaminants in the source water.

In the 1st stage, there’s a polypropylene sediment filter which takes out all the particles and large particles in the water down to 5 microns. This step clears out all the dust, rust, silt, sand, scales and any other solid contaminant.

The RO-PH90 is the best model in APEC’s ultimate series when it comes to providing great tasting water. It’s much similar to the RO-90 but features an extra stage which comprises of an alkaline filter that enhances the taste of your source water.

If you prefer a more natural and better-tasting water with some healthy minerals in it, then the RO-PH90 might just be the right choice.

Filtration Process

The system uses a 6-stage filtration process to enhance the water purity and its pH level.

The 1st stage is the effective 5-micron polypropylene sediment which traps all the dirt, dust, rust, silt, sand and other large particles and contaminants in the water.

The 4th and last stage in the RO-CTOP-PH system is a food-grade calcite mineral cartridge. This filter adds calcium carbonate into the water which introduces calcium minerals that neutralize the acidity of the RO water and raise its pH level. The resulting water has a more balanced alkalinity and a much pleasant, natural taste.

The APEC RO-PERM like the other models in the ultimate series is equally quite identical to the RO-90 model except that it’s particularly designed to provide boosted performance.

Filtration Process

Stage 2 and 3 feature two carbon block filters made from coconut shell. These two filters are quite powerful and have a large surface area. APEC’s highest quality FILMTEC TFC RO membrane with a high rejection rate of 99% ensures complete purification of the water in the fourth stage. Pre-installed Permeate Pump

The highlight of this APEC RO-PERM model is the pre-installed permeate pump it comes with. The pump utilizes hydraulic energy often lost to the drain to effectively enhance the tank pressure enabling the RO-PERM to fill the storage tank quicker.

It can fill the tank around 2 to 3 times faster than the rest of APEC’s systems and most other standard RO systems on the market.

That extra boost in filling pressure also leads to an increased delivery pressure at your faucet. It makes the water to flow out of the tank to the faucet faster facilitating a quicker fill-up.

Under normal feed water pressure of 60 psi or above, the permeate pump can also improve the overall performance of the system by boosting the flow through the filters.

It can as well help cut down the amount of wastewater generated. With most of APEC’s systems having wastewater to pure water ratio of 3:1, the inclusion of this permeate pump will help this RO-PERM to significantly reduce this ratio and conserve water.

The RO-CTOP is another excellent countertop RO system from APEC. It’s a hassle-free, portable unit that offers nothing but convenience and ease of use.

Like the RO-OCTOP-PH, APEC has designed two versions of the RO-CTOP model, one without casing (RO-CTOP) and another without casing (RO-CTOP-C). In this review, we look at the latter version, the RO-CTOP-C.

Filtration Process

The RO-CTOP-C utilizes a 4-stage RO filtration process that features the powerful filters and membrane found in APEC’s under-sink residential systems.

Stage 1 is occupied by a sediment filter made from polypropylene and it does well to trap dirt, silt, sand, rust and every large particle that’s bigger than 5 microns.

It’s followed by a coconut shell activated carbon filter with a large surface area that helps to efficiently get rid of chlorine, chloramines, odors, cloudiness, colors and unpleasant taste. The filter as well removes other common chemicals and VOCs like pesticides and herbicides.

Stage 3 of the system consists of the FILMTEC TFC RO membrane which is a super-effective membrane that deals with the tiniest and most difficult contaminants to remove. It clears out everything larger than 0.0001 micron which basically eliminates up to 99% of all the TDS and contaminants in the water from heavy metals to microorganisms and more.

Stage 4 which is the last part of the filtration process is fitted with an equally large capacity coconut shell carbon filter that serves as the post-filter and it performs the final polishing of the water by getting rid of any residual chlorine, taste, odor, particulates.

Filtration Capacity and Efficiency

With regards to water production, the RO-CTOP-C can output a maximum of 90 gallons of water in a day. The rate at which it will deliver water may be slow if your pressure is low but that’s much more capacity for daily use.

Not only is this capable of producing high amounts of water but it’s also surprisingly efficient than most of the other large under-sink systems from APEC.

It only wastes 2 gallons of water for each gallon of clean water it produces. This is lower than the 3:1 average ration on many APEC’s residential systems which is a big plus.

Installation and Maintenance

Aside from connecting the feed and wastewater hoses to the system and the pure water hose from the system to your faucet, no other installation is required. It’s that simple and straightforward.  It will hook up easily to any existing standard faucet.

The same simple installation applies too to maintenance as there’s nothing much you will need to do. All the filters are durable. You will only have to replace the pre-stage filters once every year. The RO membrane and post-filter need changing after 2 to 5 years.

One of the things we liked much about this particular APEC RO-CTOP-C version is that it’s quite compact and designed very well than RO-OCTOP-PH model above or its counterpart, the RO-CTOP-C.

All the filters plus the RO membrane are nicely enclosed in a cover and clipped to a backplate. Nothing is exposed to the open. The whole unit weighs about 10 pounds and measures 15.5 x 6.5 x 6.5 inches.

Therefore, it’s lightweight and highly portable especially with the complete encasing which makes it easy and convenient to carry it with you.

If you need a portable countertop RO system that can provide the same filtration power and efficiency like any large under-sink RO system, then this APEC RO-CTOP-C would suit you fine.

APEC RO-Lite RO System Reviews

Offering double capacity filters and high production capacity, the APEC RO-Lite model is a unit solely built for light commercial use or large-scale residential use.

It has the features and capability to effectively purify highly contaminated water than any standard under-sink RO unit.

The model comes in three versions which are the RO-Lite-180, RO-Lite-240 and RO-Lite-360. The three options have the same number and type of pre-filters and post-filters. What sets them apart is the water production rate and the number of membranes they have.

The RO-Lite-180 has two membranes, the RO-Lite-240 three membranes while the RO-Lite-360 has four. Below is our review of the RO-Lite-180 which will give you a better perspective of how the other two models perform.

Filtration Process

Same as the other two versions, the RO-Lite uses a 5-stage RO filtration with three filters in the pre-stage, two membranes in the 4th stage and one filter in the post-stage. 

For the 1st stage, the unit is equipped with a high-grade 20” polypropylene sediment filter. It will trap dirt, sand, silt, sand and any particle that’s greater than 5 microns to protect the rest of the filters and membranes from getting clogged.

Next, the water passes through a 20” 5-micron premium extruded carbon block which clears out chlorine, chloramine, odor, tastes, cloudiness, some large organic contaminants, and VOCs. The filter also helps remove the remaining sediments and several other common chemicals.

The 3rd stage features another 20” 5-micron premium extruded carbon filter which further removes any residual chlorine, chemicals as well as VOCs that slipped through the 2nd stage.

In the 4th stage of the system, the water passes through two APEC 0.0001-micron FILMTEC TFC membranes. The fact that each of these membranes is really of high-quality guarantees optimal filtration when it comes to contaminant removal.

Together, they double the rejection rate of the system enabling it to consistently eliminate 99.9% of the TDS, chemicals, microorganisms and thousands of other contaminants present in your water.

300 gallons is a large amount of clean filtered water and it will cater to most large demand needs. It’s perfect for restaurants, small offices, labs, and even salons.

However, it doesn’t come with an RO storage tank which it will require for it to work efficiently. It will need a large pressurized storage tank but it’s compatible with most of the options available on the market, so it’s not something to worry about much.

Following the RCC7U is the iSpring RCC1UP which is an upgrade to the RCC7U model with the addition of a booster pump. It’s a unit that guarantees maximum performance and great filtration results in situations where the pressure of the source water is quite low.

Filtration Process

The RCC1UP utilizes a 6-stage RO filtration process same as the RCC7U. The first three pre-filters comprises of a sediment filter, a carbon KDF (GAC) filter and a carbon block (CTO) filter.

Furthermore, with the pump boosting the production speed, you can expect a steady flow of clean water all day long. The pump also reduces the wastewater from 3 gallons to about 2 gallons for every gallon of purified water produced which is way much better.

Installation and Maintenance

We found the RCC1UP relatively easy to set up as it uses push to connect fittings and comes with a clear manual and all the parts you need to install it.

It might be a little tricky though if you are not that good with DIY installations as it will require a power source and a bit more space because it’s somewhat bulky. However, it will fit in most under-sink kitchen cabinets provided is higher than 20”.

The filter cartridges in the first 3 stages require replacing every 3 to 6 months based on your water quality while the stage 5 filter is to be replaced every year. The UV light filter can last about a year.

The RO membrane requires the least maintenance since it can last 2 to 2 years before requiring replacement.

The best part is that despite having the boost pump, the system runs quietly, only producing a low volume hum which is hard to hear with normal kitchen activity.

The overall quality of the unit is good too. The prefilters feature thick and solid housings while the fittings are plastic but feel durable. It’s a system that will definitely serve you for many years.

In all of iSpring’s RO systems we’ve reviewed, this is the most comprehensive model. It basically has everything you would want in an RO system.

Filtration Process

Similar to the RCC7AK-UV, the iSpring RCC1UP-AK is a 7 stage RO system and it uses the first 5 stages of the RO filtration process to very effectively eliminate all the unwanted impurities in the water including chlorine, odor, and unpleasant tastes.

Alkaline Remineralization Filter

To replenish the lost minerals removed by the RO process, the stage 6 of the RCC1UP-AK makes use of an alkaline remineralization filter which has red mineral stones that add back the healthy natural minerals to the RO water.

The stones add calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium ions to the water which make the water mineral-rich and healthy almost like the spring waters.

Aside from the mineral stones, the filter has calcite media which adjust the pH level of the filtered water bringing it to a more neutral to alkaline level. This, in turn, enhances the taste of the RO water making it much refreshing to drink.

We couldn’t find any serious downside to this unit. However, although the flow sensor switch help minimize power consumption, the fact that both the pump and the UV lamp use electricity will likely raise your power bills but not too high.
